Class of 2007

 

Karla Bercaw

Hills Gymnastics

Karla is a Level 10 with 13 years in the sport, and maintains a 4.34 GPA. She was J.O. National Qualifer in 2006 after placing 2nd All Around at the 2006 Regionals Meet, including a personal best of 9.8 on vault. The daughter of Rob and Marie Bercaw, she will be attending the College of William & Mary on a full athletic scholarship.

 

Jennifer Iovino

Hills Gymnastics

Jennifer is a 4 time TOPS National Team Member and 3 time Elite USA Championships competitor. She won the 2006 JO National Championships on Floor Exercise, and also placed 3rd All Around in that meet. She was won numerous State and Regional Titles over the years. The daughter of Frank and Carol Ann, she will be competing next year for the University of Alabama on a full scholarship.

 

Kelsey McDermid

Hills Gymnastics

Kelsey is a Level 10 with 10 years in the sport, and maintains a 4.0 GPA. She was J.O. National Qualifer in 2006 after taking 2nd All-Around at States, including 1st place on balance beam. She also took 3rd on beam at Regionals. She was named Level 10 Maryland Outstanding Gymnast in 2007. The daughter of Bill and Erin McDermid, she will be attending the University of Maryland College Park.

 

Erin Previte

Frederick Gymnastics

As a Level 10 in 2006, Erin placed 3rd on vault at Regionals. Erin was a member of the Level 9 State Champions in 2003, was Level 9 State Vault Champion in 2004, and in 2005 was 1st on vault, 2nd on bars, and 2nd All Around. That year she would also take 1st on bars at Regionals, and qualify to Easterns. The daughter of Laura and Joe Previte, Erin will be attending Towson University on a gymnastics scholarship.

 

Megan Wooden

Baltimore County Gymnastics

Megan is a 3 time Level 10 Regional Qualifier. She previously qualified to Level 9 Regionals, and was Level 9 State Vault Champion, Level 7 State Bars Champion, and Level 7 State All Around Champion. The daughter of Dave & Alice Wooden, Megan has been awarded an athletic scholarship to compete for Towson University where she plans to pursue a degree in athletic training.

 

Samantha Bowman

ACPR Gymnastics

Samantha is graduating from Harford Technical High School, where she is in the National Honor Society, a member of health occupation students of America, Skills USA, and the senior class council. Upon graduation Sam will be attending Wilson College in Pennsylvania on an academic scholarship. She plans on majoring in exercise science and competing as a Wilson Phoenix. Sam has been with ACPR for 8 years and is now coaching.

 

Kristi Bowling

Elite Gymnastics

Kristi competed at Level 10 States in 2005 and 2006, and qualified to Level 10 Regionals in 2005. In 2004 she was Level 9 State All Around, Beam, and Floor Champion. She has competed in USAG for the past 11 season and has qualified to States every year. The daughter of Marty and Sherri Bowling, she will attend Towson University and be a part of the gymnastics team. She wants to become a registered nurse and work in a hospital.

 

Colleen Cheseldine

Elite Gymnastics

Colleen has been compting for USAG for 10 years and has qualified to states every year. Colleen has also qualified to Regionals for the past 4 years. In 2007 she placed 2nd on bars at the State Championships. The daughter of Jack and Theresa Cheseldine, she will be attending West Virginia and plans to major in biology before attending medical school to become a physician in a hospital

 

Kayla Della

Docksiders Gymnastics

Kayla qualified for Easterns in 2005 and 2006. At the 2006 Regional meet she took 1st place on floor, 2nd on beam, and 2nd place All Around. She also won the Regional Title on Level 8 Beam in 2004. The daughter of Guy & Karen Della, Kayla plans to go to Towson University and major in Early Childhood Education.

 

Jamie DePaola

Carroll Gymnastics

Jamie was two-time All-Around State Champion and Regional Vault Champion, and was named the Maryland Outstanding Gymnast in 2007. The daughter of Bill and Sallie, Jamie has been accepted to University of Bridgeport and plans to compete for their team. She plans to major in creative writing and film criticism.

 

Kyla Gill

Elite Gymnastics

Kyla was a State Qualifier for the past 11 years, and a 2006 and 2007 Level 9 Regional Qualifier. The daughter of Sue and Dave Gill, she will be going to the College of Southern Maryland and study psychology.

 

Annie Griffioen

Hills Gymnastics

Annie individually raised $11,446 for the Children’s Miracle Network through USAG’s Cartwheel-A-Thon. Annie came back from Reconstructive surgery to qualify for States in 2006-7. She was Level 7 All Around and Floor State Champion in 2003-4. The daughter of Jos & Cathi Griffioen, she is looking at several scools and plans to continue gymnastics in college.

 

Heather Hein

Columbia Gymnastics

Heather has been involved in gymnastics for 16 years, the past 6 at Columbia Gymnastics. She was 2003 Mason Dixon Bars & All Around Champion, 2004 Mason Dixon Vault, Beam, Floor, and All Around Champion and 2005 USAG Level 8 Regional Champion. Heather is currently a student at Montgomery College and plans to puruse a career in Law Enforcement after finishing her studies. She is also continuing at Columbia Gymnastics as birthday party coordinator and a team coach.

 

Karissa Lam

Delmarva Gymnastics

Karissa has maintained straight As throughout high school, is a Maryland Distinguished Scholar finalist, National Honor Society member, and won a state award for the article “What it Takes to be a College Athlete,” among other extracurricular activities. She has been in gymnastics since 3 years old, and is a former Level 8 and 9 Regional Qualifier. In 2007 she placed 2nd on beam at the State Championships. The daughter of Patti and Patrick Lam, she plans to enter a 4 year university and major in journalism.

 

Sarah Lemler

Elite Gymnastics

Sarah was the 2005 Level 9 State All Around, beam, and vault champion and a member of the Maryland State Team. She followed that performance by qualifying to Easterns and placing 4th on vault. The daughter of Genie and Bruce Lemler, Sarah has accepted an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.

 

Courtney Lovetere

Frederick Gymnastics

Courtney was 2nd on floor and third in vault in 2005-6 for the Maryland State Team Champions. In 2004-5 she was Level 8 State Champion on floor and All Around and third on vault. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honors Society, and Who’s Who Among High School Students. The daughter of Thomas & Colleen Lovetere, Courtney received an academic scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and will compete for the Warhawks.

 

Ashley Moreck

Delmarva Gymnastics

Ashley has qualified for Level 9 Regionals the past 3 years, and is also a Level 4 coach at Delmarva. A Straight A 5.0 student, she has been recognized the past 3 years at the We excel program. She is a National Honor Society member, Member of the Key club, and Interact club, and also was awarded MVP of her high school lacrosse team. The daughter of Rick & Carol Moreck, she is undecided at this time but has been accepted to both Springfield College and Ithaca Colllege, where she plans to be a computer science major

 

Melissa Morgan

Elite Gymnastics

Melissa is a former Level 9 State Champion who has competed at Easterns the past 3 years in a row. In 2007 she won the State Championship on bars.  She is also a former Level 4 State Champion. The daughter of Kerri & Dan Morgan, she will be attending the College of Southern Maryland for a year before transferring to West Virginia University.

 

Megan Nesline

Rebounders Gymnastics

Megan placed 2nd All Around at Regionals in 2005-6, after a 4th place finish at States. She qualified for Level 8 Regionals in 2003-4, where she placed 2nd on floor. In 2002 she was All Around State Champion at Level 7. The daughter of Vince & Kristin Nesline, Megan will be attending Ohio State University this fall.

 

Yihanna von Ritter

Preston Gymnastics

In 2006, Yihanna was the Level 8 All Around and Vault State Champion, and was also named Maryland Outstanding Gymnast. She was also a former Bars State Champion at Level 5.  The daughter of Konrad Ritter and Christiana Figueres, Yihanna has been accepted to Stanford University, where she plans to study law and become a women’s rights advocate. She also wants to start a women’s club team at Stanford.

 

Abby Trader

Rebounders Gymnastics

Abby was State All Around and Beam champion in 2007, and has won numerous Invitational titles. She was 2nd place All Around in both 2004 and 2005. The daughter of Chuck and Miriam Trader, Abby has signed to attend Towson Univeristy on a partial gymnastics scholarship.

 

Carla Egner

Elite Gymnastics

Carla hasplaced in every state meet that she has competed at. She is safety certified as a USAG coach. Carla has ben playing piano for 10 years, and has performed at various recitals and festivals and received high ratings. She is a leader in her church, working every Sunday in Children’s Church. She has also received scholarships for Christian summer camps. The daughter of Mike and Sharma Egner, Carla has earned her GED and has been nominated for a scholarship. She is currently taking class at College of Southern Maryland and will continue her college education ful time in the fall to continue working towards a business/accounting major.

 

Caitlin Fleming

Docksiders Gymnastics

Caite has won numerous State Championships over the years, including 2007 Level 8 State Floor Champion, 2006 Level 8 State Beam Champion, 2005 Level 8 State Beam Champion, 2004 Level 7 State Beam Champion, and 2002 Level 6 State Floor Champion. She is also the Docksiders Club Record Holder for Level 7 Beam and Level 8 Beam. The daughter of Shaun & Elwyn Fleming, Caite will be attending the University o Maryland at College Park, majoring in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. She plans to continue competitive gymnastics in college, and continue at Docksiders Gymnastics as a coach.

 

Melissa Hebbel

Harford Gymnastics

At the Level 5 State Meet, Melissa placed 1st on floor and 2nd All Around. At the Level 6 State Meet, Meliisa was vault and bars champion, and placed 2nd All Around. At Level 7, Melissa achieved a high event score of 9.55 on vault. At Level 8, Melissa qualified to Regionals and placed 2nd on bars in 2007. Melissa was nominated by her fellow teammates and received the Gina Farinetti Award in memory of Gina, who was kown for her positive attitude, hard work, and dedication to her team and the sport. The daughter of Barry & Darlene, Melissa is looking forward to attending the University of Maryland at College Park Scholars program in the fall, where she plans to compete at the club gymnastics level.

 

Sara Miller

Harford Gymnastics

Sara placed in the top three at various competitions throughout Level 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, and placed in the top 3 in over 45 meets. She broke team records for Level 7 Floor and All Around Scores. She won the “Iron Gymnast” award for Harford Gymnastics. Sara was State Champion for Level 5 and Level 7 Uneven bars, and in 2007 was Level 8 State Champion on Beam and All Around, and was also named Maryland Outstanding Gymnast. The daughter of Theresa and Jeff Miller, Sara plans to major in mathematics at Towson University in the Honors program and potentially continue gymnastics throughout college.

 

Justina Pfister

Preston Gymnastics

Justina is an International Baccalaureate student and co-captain of her high school gymnastics team. She placed 2nd All Around at Level 7 States, and qualified to Regionals at Level 8.  The daughter of Edward & Jackeline Pfister, Justina is currently undecided on college between the University of Maryland or University of Michigan.

 

Bonnie Ripple

Island Gymnastics

Bonnie started gymnastics at age 5. She started competing in 1997 at Level5, and has qualified to States at Levels 5-8. She is team captain this year and a leader and friend to all the younger gymnasts, often driving them to practice if their parents can’t. She will attend a local Maryland university next year to pursue a Business major/career.
