Alanna Cornell

All Pro

Parents Bonnie & Michael Cornell. Graduating in May with a 3.6 GPA from Atholton High School. She has been in the gymnastics world since the age of 5, alternating between USAG and the Mason Dixon league. Complementing her gymnastics, Alana has also studied dance. Currently a member of Atholton’s Senior Dance Company, Alana has been dancing as long as she has been competing in gymnastics. As if school, gymnastics, and dance were not enough, Alana is also an active member of the Oseh Shalom Chapter of B’nai B’rith Youth Organization. Holding numerous offices within the chapter, Alana is regarded as a leader in the organization. Alana will be attending University of Redlands in Redlands, California this fall.

 

Pooja Jain

Chesapeake Gymnastics

Parents Chandra Jain and Dr. Gyan Surana. Her gymnastics accomplishments include Level 7 Vault at States and competed in Level 8 States. Varsity and Indoor Track, Model UN Club, Drama club, and school dance company. She shadowed surgeons at Calvert Memorial Hospital for Knee Replacement surgeries, hysterectomy, appendectomy, c-section, and a gall bladder removal. She will be attending the University of Maryland and would like to be a surgeon in the future.

 

 

 

Nina Lachewitz

Hill’s Gymnastics

Parent Carol Giffen. Nina has been with Hill’s since she started the sport as a class kid at age 5. She has qualified for every State Championship since she started competing as a Level 4. In addition to well over 100 invitational event medals and overall trophies, as a Level 5 she won 3rd place bar state champion, 5th place state vault champion, and 6th place All Around. She was 2nd place bars as a Level 7 as well as placing 7th on floor and 8th All Around. In her first year as a Level 8 she placed 6th All Around at States and qualified to Regionals, where her floor score contributed to Maryland’s 2nd place Team finish. Nina has a 3.6 unweighted GPA at Wheaton High School, where she has taken 4 years of coursework within the engineering Academy program. Outside of the gym she has assisted the Wheaton Cheerleading and Pom team coaches in fine tuning the teams’ tumbling skills and routines. She enjoys setting up music playlists and also playing with her newest pet, a ball python named Shyla. Nina is excited to have committed to Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA, where she intends to pursue studies in health science and pre medicine. She will continue her gymnastics as part of the Wilson Collegiate Team.

 

Kayla Perry

Silver Stars Gymnastics

Parents Lawrence and Diane Perry. Level 7 State Vault and Beam Champion. Level 8 Regional Qualifier, 2nd place on beam. Honorable mention All county gymnastics team 2006 & 2007, All County gymnastics 2008. GPA 3.7, weighted 4.4. Honor roll AP scholar. Member of Blake High School gymnastics, Poms, and Cheerleading. Internship at the National Institutes of Health and studying mouse models of autism in the laboratory of behavioral new science. Next year Kayla will be attending Clemson University and will be part of their honors program. She will be intheir pre-med program and will major in bio medical engineering.

 

Jeannie Plater

Chesapeake Gymnastics

Parents Gurlene and Eugine Plater. She has competed in Level 7 States and moved up to compete in Level 8. Jeannie plays powder puff football for her school, and volunteers her time cutting hair for the elderly. Her plans for next year include attending the College of Southern Maryland in the Fall and eventually transferring to Towson University.

 

 

Rebecca Moschler

St. Mary’s Gymnastics

Parents Joe and Paula Moschler. Level 7 Gymnast and State Qualifier 2005-2007, 2006 2nd place on beam and 5th All Around. Level 8 gymnast and state qualifier 2007-2009. Honor roll with GPA above 3.75. Student Council member, class treasurer. 2007 National Physical Fitness Award. 2006 & 2007 participated in High School dramas, participated in “World Changers”, “Leader in Training” participant 2008. Volunteer at school office 2007 & 2008. Worked at local Soup kitchen in 2006. Next year will be attending Virginia Military Institute on scholarship, where she will major in biology, and eventually serve our country in the military.

 

 

Kathleen Roberson

Harford Gymnastics

Parents Ken and Shirley Roberson.  2008 Christmas on the Chesapeake 3rd place All Around, 2008 Level 7 State Beam and Vault Champion, 2nd place All Around. 2008 winner of Gina Farinetti Memorial Award. Member of school orchestra, manager of school swim and tennis team, part of tennis team in grades 9 and 10. Honor roll every quarter of high school, National Honor Society secretary. Member of Jobs Daughters, Honored Queen in 2006. Bass guitar player for Churches contemporary Praise band. Next year plans on attending Towson University and majoring in exercise science.

 

Jennifer Roche

Silver Stars Gymnastics

Parents Letitia Obeng and Robert Roche. 3rd place on vault at Maryland State Championships is 2005 and 2007. Honorable Mention in Montgomery County Gazette Newspaper. All American on Vualt, Floor, Beam, and All Around. Honor Roll Scholar Athlete at Walter Johnson High School. Varsity indoor track and outdoor track and field, triple jump and long jump. Universal Dance Association, All Star squad. Next year Jennifer will be attending University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is interested in Medical Science.
